Medical Microneedling
Medical microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment also referred to as collagen induction therapy. It works by creating pinpoint punctures in the dermis of the skin (called micro-channels) to trigger the skin’s natural healing process and generate new collagen and elastin. It is an effective way to treat acne scars, facial lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation and even stretch marks.
Dr Fiona uses the Dermapen microneedling pen and the treatment usually takes 15-30 minutes. Immediately afterwards, it is normal to look slightly sunburned. Your skin may also feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after 1-2 hours. It is important to note that every person is different, so redness will vary depending on your skin type.
Optimal results will be seen in approximately six weeks after the initial treatment and repeated treatments may be required to increase longevity of results.

What Is Medical Microneedling?

When Will I See Results and How Long Do They Last?
Visible results can be seen 4-6 weeks after the first treatment (of which around a course of 3-4 is advised, depending on your concern) and continue to improve over the months thereafter.
Does It Hurt? Will I Need Anaesthesia?
Microneedling is mildly uncomfortable and most people tolerate it without anaesthesia. If you are keen to have local anaesthetic, this can be discussed with Dr Fiona.
Are There Any Risks Associated with Microneedling?
Microneedling is generally considered a safe and effective treatment – however the main risk associated is skin irritation following the procedure.
