Some patients looking for rejuvenation are not keen on injectable treatments such as botulinum toxin or dermal filler and want a more “natural” or less invasive option. When it comes to natural options for skin rejuvenation, microneedling is by far one of the most impressive and reliable treatments available.
Medical microneedling is often referred to as “collagen induction therapy” or “skin needling”, and involves creating microscopic channels into the skins matrix stimulating a wound healing response with intense renewal repair and rejuvenation. This natural healing process stimulates the production of new and healthy collagen and elastin – which are the building blocks of firm and youthful looking skin. Medical microneedling is excellent for treating fine lines and wrinkles as well as reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Used alone or in combination with chemical peels, microneedling results in youthful, plump and glowing skin. However, my favourite thing about medical microneedling is the versatility of the areas treating. It can be used to tackle the difficult to treat under eye wrinkles as well as treating neck lines and ageing hands to provide a more youthful appearance.
You might have heard the terms “cosmetic microneedling” and “medical microneedling” frequently interchanged, but there are important differences. Cosmetic microneedling performed by a beauty therapist can only penetrate the skin to a certain superficial depth thus limiting how effective the treatment can be. Medical microneedling performed by doctors can penetrate and stimulate deeper layers of the skin, producing more powerful and impressive results.
A course of 3-6 sessions are advised in order to see the best results with a minimum of 4-6 weeks between each treatment. If you are also having Botox or dermal fillers, I usually advise to leave a 2 week gap between microneedling and these treatments.
Medical Microneedling Chelsea
In my clinic, I use the DermaPen to perform all my needling treatments. In my opinion, it is by far the best instrument on the market and is significantly less painful than the traditional dermaroller. The treatment should take approximately 15-20 minutes and I apply a soothing mask afterwards filled with Hyaluronic acid. Your skin may feel a little “sunburned” afterwards and you will need to wear SPF on leaving the clinic.
Medical microneedling could offer an abundance of benefits for you and your skin concerns, suitable for both face and body treatments, but the only way to find out is to take control and take the first step towards renewed skin confidence. Together, we can discuss your skin concerns in confidence and determine the best possible course of action for you through a bespoke treatment plan. I’d love to hear from you, so don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out more about medical microneedling, and to schedule your consultation with me at my new clinic in Kings Road, Chelsea.
Don’t forget, I’m offering free consultations to all new patients until 30th November, 2018.
